The University of Haifa, established in 1972, has a diverse student population of over 18,000. CSU IP students study at the International School which is an interdisciplinary department within the University of Haifa. The International School offers courses taught in English in subject areas such history, Jewish studies, literature, Middle Eastern studies, peace and conflict studies, political science and psychology. In addition to the courses taught in English, students with sufficient Hebrew language skills can also take courses in other departments of the university.

View of the University of HaifaThe university offers Hebrew and Arabic language courses, and CSU students must take at least one Hebrew or Arabic language course each semester. Instruction is offered at all levels to accommodate students from beginner to advanced language levels. Students take a placement exam upon arrival to determine their level.

LOCATION

Haifa is the largest city in Northern Israel and the third largest city in the country. The city serves as a major seaport located on Israel’s Mediterranean coastline in the Bay of Haifa. Haifa is Israel’s largest high tech center with companies such as Google, Intel, Cisco and Qualcomm, and IBM has its headquarters on the University of Haifa campus. The University of Haifa campus spreads along the Carmel Mountain ridge and is surrounded by the Carmel National Park. Haifa is located 56 miles north of Tel Aviv, which can be easily reached in about 50 minutes by train.

HOUSING

Housing is arranged prior to arrival in Israel by the University of Haifa. All students live in on-campus dormitories. Each dormitory apartment houses six students in either double or single bedrooms, with a shared kitchen and living space. Israeli and international students live in the dorms, allowing CSU students the opportunity to meet local students and have a more complete Israeli experience.

INTERNSHIP

In the second semester, students have the option of taking an internship course which features directed work-study experiences related to the student’s academic or vocational interests. The internship course is coordinated by an International School faculty member and supervised by on-site personnel who have academic or professional credentials. Most internships involve 10-15 hours of work per week at the internship site and are worth three or four academic credits.
