Program Dates
CSU IP students spend an Academic Year abroad on this program. The traditional Mexican academic cycle begins in February and ends in November.
Academic Year: July to June.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) is better known as Tec. The Tec is a major university system with 32 campuses throughout Mexico. CSU IP students study at Tec’s Querétaro campus, which was founded in 1975 and enrolls about 5,000 students in 19 majors. CSU students may pursue coursework in most areas, subject to their language ability, or concentrate on Spanish language learning.
The Mexico: Technológico de Monterrey (in Spanish) program is designed for students who have advanced proficiency in Spanish reading, writing, listening and speaking, and who are ready to study in the native language alongside local students. The Tec provides a Spanish language placement test upon arrival to assess students’ Spanish language level. Students who are placed in advanced Spanish and who have met the course prerequisites can enroll in any of the courses offered at the Tec. The International Programs Office staff in Querétaro will assist with course registration during the on-site orientation.
For additional academic information about this program, please refer to the CSU IP Academic Bulletin for most current year by clicking here. Note that course offerings are subject to change and may not be offered during the year of intended study.
LOCATION
The Mexico: Technológico de Monterrey (in Spanish) program is located in North-Central Mexico in Querétaro, which is located 125 miles north of Mexico City and 220 miles east of Guadalajara. Querétaro is one of Mexico’s most well-known and beautiful colonial cities and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. It is located near the ancient capitals of the Aztecs and the Toltecs, and is growing as an important business and industrial center.
HOUSING
Upon arrival in Querétaro, students are provided with temporary host family accommodations, for one month, prearranged by the Tec. During this first month, the on-site staff will provide students with housing information and assist them in finding permanent accommodations. Some students choose to stay with their host family for the remainder of the academic year, while others rental local apartments.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Internships (Type A only for three units per semester) may be available to students enrolled in the Study in English/Learn Spanish and Direct Enrollment Programs depending on availability and the language required for the internship. Internships are given upper division credit and are limited to three units per semester, which is the CSU IP policy. While the Tec offers six and nine unit internships (per semester), this is not permitted by the CSU IP Office. For internship information, contact the Programas Internacionales Office.
