Dating back to 501 AD as a Roman Territory, Portsmouth is a thriving city on the south coast of England. It offers something for everyone, whether it is history, shopping, entertainment or sports. Situated on the Solent, opposite the Isle of Wight, France, Portsmouth is a busy cosmopolitan with around 200,000 inhabitants, 20,000 of which are students. Portsmouth is a gateway to the main European continent and other UK cities. With its ideal location as a significant naval port for centuries, Portsmouth is home to the world’s oldest dry dock still in use and also home to some famous ships. Currently as a busy ferry port, links are available to France and to Spain. The fast trains take 90 minutes to central London, 90 minutes to Gatwick Airport, 30 minutes to Southampton Airport, and 2 hours and 30 minutes from Heathrow Airport by coach.
PortsmouthThe University of Portsmouth is conveniently located in the center of all the action. Whether it is night life, shopping, or sports, the university is only a walk away from all the prime locations. The university aims to give you an excellent student experience focused on knowledge and skills essential for roles in the global workforce. UoP offers plenty of services through their departments and through the student union. There are several events happening weekly that are sponsored by the student union, which gives students plenty of options for recreational and social activities. There are currently about 20,000 students enrolled at UoP, with about 3,000 of them being graduate students, and 3,500 from different countries. The university takes pride in the reputation it has built among its students as well as the well-structured and friendliness learning environment it provides.
The UoP academic calendar consists of two seventeen-week semesters and then a week of final exams at the end of the school year calendar in May. Units are converted as Follows; 10 UoP credits equal 3 SJSU credits. These will be converted upon returning from the program. SJSU students must take 40–60 UoP credits in order to maintain a full time status. Aside from choosing the right credit load, students must take classes (also known as modules) that correspond to their major (also known as the student’s Course). Student will have to provide academic evidence for modules that require pre-requisites.

Studying in England can be very different from the styles of teaching and learning in the U.S. At the University of Portsmouth there is a strong reliance on personal learning. Classes are student-centered and participants are encouraged to voice opinions in group work and seminars. Assessments are specific to subject areas but can include essays, examinations, course work, and module notebooks. For some courses 70–100% of the assessment may be based on the final examination. Note that terminology changes with the British Education System.

Please find the list of modules (courses) available at Portsmouth here.   PLEASE NOTE: the module listings are extremely limited at Portsmouth, especially for the Spring semester when only three modules are available to exchange students.  Be aware of this when planning to study abroad at Portsmouth Business School.
There are two types of accommodation available to students in Portsmouth: University-allocated accommodation or private rented accommodation. Further information about accommodation can be found here
