PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Spain: Language & Culture at Universidad de Jaén program is affiliated with the University of Jaén, a new, modern campus which enrolls approximately 18,000 students. The program is designed for students at the beginner level of Spanish, and provides students with the opportunity to make rapid progress learning Spanish as well as providing a deeper understanding of the country and culture of Spain.
Spain - Learn Spanish
Upon arrival, students take a placement exam to determine the level of Spanish they will be placed in for the fall semester. After the winter break, in late December/early January, students enroll in an intensive Spanish course which is required for all students. During the spring semester, students will continue their study of the Spanish language, but will also take elective courses such as Spanish literature, Spanish culture and society, and the economy of Spain. Students who have made sufficient progress in the Spanish language may be able to take one course in the Facultad during the spring semester.

For additional academic information about this program, please refer to the CSU IP Academic Bulletin for most current year by clicking here. Note that course offerings are subject to change and may not be offered during the year of intended study.

LOCATION

The Spain: Language & Culture at Universidad de Jaén program is located in Jaén, a city in Southern Spain and in the heart of Andalucía. With a modest population of 116,000 residents and unspoiled by mass tourism, Jaén is an ideal location for Spanish language study and cultural immersion. Jaén is an easy bus or train ride to Granada (about one hour) or the beaches of Malaga (about three hours).

HOUSING

Upon arrival in Jaén, all students are provided with temporary hotel accommodations for the first few days during the arrival orientation. Then, the host university arranges for students to live with a host family for one month. Occasionally, students may continue to live with the host family for the remainder of the academic year (if mutually agreed upon by the student and family), however, most students typically choose to rent a local apartment after their month with the host family. The host university staff will provide assistance to students in their search for local apartments.
